Having mapped the Cosmos in a thoroughly egalitarian manner, we now need to pay particular attention to a vital issue that affects us all: all of us—as body-mind organisms—are the products of some fourteen billion years of evolution since the most recent big bang. Without all these aeons of development in the horizontal dimension of time, none of us would be where we are today.
Yet, no evolutionary process continues indefinitely. As Pierre Teilhard de Chardin pointed out in The Human Phenomenon, one day, all the divergent streams of evolution will converge in a megasynthesis of everything at the Omega Point. However, we cannot get there from here. Paradoxically, as Alpha and Omega are one by the Principle of Unity, we can only reach the Omega Point by letting go of the entire history of evolution; by starting afresh at the very beginning, at the Alpha Point, at the Origin of the Universe.
From this holistic view of all evolutionary processes, we explore what this means for humanity’s place in the overall scheme of things. First, we look at the True Identity that we humans share with all other beings in the Universe.
Next, we highlight the two dimensions of time, necessary to put evolution and involution into their holistic perspective, liberating us from our mechanistic conditioning and the fear of death in all its forms. We are then able to answer two big questions that have puzzled humans for thousands of years: “Where have we come from?” and “Where are we heading?”
For without answers to these questions, we cannot discover what is causing scientists and technologists to drive the pace of evolutionary change at unprecedented, exponential rates of acceleration. And without this understanding, we run our business affairs blindfold, with little understanding of the Divine, Cosmic energies that cause us to behave as we do.
